Josef Jindrich Sechtl

Josef Jindrich Sechtl is son of Ignac Josef Schachtl. He wanted to be chemist, but in the year 1891 he taken job of reproduction photographer in polygraphics factory of Jan Vilimek in Prague.

Since year 1904 he was copartner of company Sechtl - Vosecek. He had more sense for the reality than his father Ignac and he didn't any riscant actions. He was making great portraits, where he was taking care for visual effect and was modeling customers using constrasts of light and shadow.

Josef Sechtl was also doing photojournalism and photos of significant persons, that came to Tabor. Probably most often he was taking photographs of dr. Eduard Benes (second Czechoslovakia president) in his villa near Tabor.

His success was based on perfect technical quality of his photos, which is visible especially on photos of architecture. Instead of film he was using 24x30 cm piece of glass for it and for photojournalism large format 13x18 cm.

He also made fine photographical prints (especially bromid-oil-prints) and experimented with color photography.

In the year 1911 his father died and he married with Annoa Stocka. Soon they had daughter Lidunka and in the year 1925 son Josef. His wife loved art and was inviting the artists. Josef Sechtl was often making their photographies.

In the year 1911 was portrait photograph adjudged to be handicraft. In the year 1926 was accepted act about "handycraftifying" of photography and in 1952 was his athelier "nationalized" by communists just after he did great reconstruction.
